Overview

Position Overview:

The Director of Graduate Medical Education (GME) and Research at Riverside Healthcare is responsible for overseeing and managing the administration of all Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs, Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities for physicians, research initiatives, and the Institutional Review Board (IRB). This leadership role ensures compliance with accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and institutional goals. The Director will work closely with faculty, residents, and research teams to support the development and execution of educational and research programs while maintaining rigorous standards for quality, ethics, and patient safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of ACGME Programs: Has the authority and responsibility for the oversight and administration of ACGME-accredited residency and fellowship programs.
  • Compliance and Accreditation: Ensures that all GME programs adhere to ACGME standards and regulatory requirements, including annual reporting and evaluations. Maintains continued accreditation status for all programs.
  • Research Oversight: Directs the review of human subject research activities. Oversees research studies conducted by trainees and providers accessing Riverside Medical Center patients or data, ensuring all research meets ethical and regulatory standards. Negotiates and manages the budgets for research conducted by trainees or providers, ensuring appropriate allocation of resources and compliance with hospital financial policies.
  • Institutional Review Board (IRB) Leadership: Oversees the activities of the IRB and ensures its compliance with federal regulations. Reports on IRB activities to the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Collaboration with Program Directors: Works closely with program directors of ACGME residency and fellowship programs to ensure that educational and clinical training goals are met and that programs are continuously improving.
  • Team Leadership: Establishes and leads teams to accomplish department and organizational goals, ensuring that projects and initiatives align with the broader objectives of Riverside Healthcare.
  • Staff Coaching and Development: Coaches staff members to create and meet department stretch goals that support hospital management goals and objectives, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Reporting to Leadership: Prepares and presents an annual report to the Board of Directors, meeting ACGME requirements and detailing the activities and performance following the Annual Institutional Review. 
  • CME Planning and Accreditation: Oversees the planning, development, and execution of Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities for physicians, ensuring activities meet accreditation requirements through the Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS) and are aligned with clinical and educational needs.

Responsibilities

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of experience in Graduate Medical Education administration, research management, or a related field.

Preferred Experience:

  • In-depth knowledge of ACGME accreditation processes, strong understanding of human subject research regulations, and the functioning of an IRB.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, negotiate resources, and ensure financial compliance for educational and research programs.
  • Strong understanding of Continuing Medical Education (CME) planning, development, and accreditation requirements.
  • Experience in leadership, team development, and the ability to establish and achieve organizational goals.

Required Education and Licensure:

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Hospital Administration, or Education field.

Preferred Education and Licensure:

  • Masters Degree in Business Administration, Hospital Administration, or a related field.
