Overview

Riverside Healthcare is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Information Security Intern to join our Information Security Team. This internship offers hands-on experience in various aspects of information security, providing exposure to tasks typically performed by junior or entry-level security analysts. The intern will assist in monitoring and maintaining the security of our systems, responding to incidents, and supporting the team in protecting our organizations critical data and infrastructure.

 

Essential Duties

 

Log Analysis and Incident Detection:

  • Analyze system logs to identify potential security incidents or anomalies.
  • Monitor security alerts and respond promptly to potential threats.

Machine Reimaging and Malware Remediation:

  • Reimage compromised machines to restore security.
  • Identify, remove, and analyze malware and viruses to protect systems.

Security Systems Integration and Scripting:

  • Assist in the integration of security systems to enhance organizational defenses.
  • Write and execute scripts (bash & PowerShell) to automate security tasks and processes.

Documentation and System Auditing:

  • Document security processes, incidents, and remediation actions.
  • Conduct audits to assess the security posture of systems and networks.

Phishing and Threat Monitoring:

  • Monitor organizational mailboxes for phishing emails and execute remediation actions.
  • Track emerging threats via threat feeds and update security measures accordingly.

SIEM Tool Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Utilize SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) tools to monitor security incidents.
  • Create and monitor SIEM dashboards and reports for ongoing security event tracking.

Flexibility:

  • Demonstrate flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure.

 

Non-essential Duties

  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to ongoing security projects.
  • Assist with general Information Security Team duties as needed.

Responsibilities

Required Experience

  • General computer literacy, with a strong understanding of basic computing concepts
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Experience

  • Introductory knowledge of security concepts, such as antivirus software and firewalls
  • Basic knowledge of a programming language, such as Python, Java, etc.
  • Introductory knowledge of a scripting language, such as bash, PowerShell, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Required Licensure/Education

  • Enrolled in a degree program in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field
