Overview

The Clinical Operations Manager is responsible for the overall clinical and operational management of Orthopedics, Podiatry, Sports Medicine, and Pain Medicine service lines. This leader ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, cost-effective care while promoting an exceptional patient and family experience. The Manager provides oversight of clinical staff, practice operations, and business functions, while also fostering strong physician, staff, and patient relationships.

 

Working in collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, hospital departments, and operational leadership, the Clinical Operations Manager is accountable for patient safety, staff competency, clinical quality, operational efficiency, financial performance, and regulatory compliance. This role also supports strategic growth initiatives, service line development, and hospital-wide performance improvement projects.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical & Patient Care Management

  • Ensure provision of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care across all assigned service lines.
  • Evaluate patient care delivery through documentation, observation, and adherence to established standards.
  • Ensure compliance with National Patient Safety Standards, CMS regulations, HIPAA, DNV, and ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to patient safety, service delivery, and patient satisfaction.
  • Oversee orientation, competency validation, and training for clinical staff.

Operational & Practice Management

  • Provide daily oversight of clerical and clinical staff, ensuring effective scheduling, assignments, and workflow.
  • Monitor staffing models, budgetary compliance, revenue cycle performance, and physician productivity.
  • Oversee business operations including registration, scheduling, billing, coding, collections, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure adequate resources, equipment, and space are available to support clinical and administrative functions.
  • Partner with credentialing and onboarding teams to integrate new providers efficiently.
  • Support growth strategies in partnership with directors and marketing to expand services and market presence.

Leadership & Staff Development

  • Recruit, mentor, and supervise departmental staff; establish accountability for high performance.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate updates, foster collaboration, and encourage professional growth.
  • Promote teamwork across departments, service lines, and the broader organization.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on staff development, disciplinary actions, promotions, and recognition.

Physician & Stakeholder Relations

  • Establish and maintain strong physician relationships, ensuring open communication and timely resolution of issues.
  • Promote positive communication with patients, families, providers, and staff to enhance the overall experience.
  • Serve as an advocate for the organization’s mission, values, and goals.

Performance & Compliance

  • Participate in hospital-wide committees, initiatives, and performance improvement programs.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures that align with regulatory, organizational, and accreditation standards.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and recommend operational or clinical improvements.

Responsibilities

Required Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive healthcare management or leadership experience in a clinical or practice-based setting.
  • Experience managing clinical operations, revenue cycle processes, and multidisciplinary teams required.

Preferred Experience

  • EPIC or other EHR experience preferred.

Required Education & Licensure

  • Licensed healthcare professional (e.g., PT/OT/SLP, AT, RN) OR healthcare administrator with significant clinical operations experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or a clinical discipline required.
  • Current state licensure required if applicable to discipline (e.g., PT/OT/SLP, AT, RN)).

Preferred Education & Licensure

  • Advanced degree (e.g., MSPT, MOT, MS-SLP, MSN, MHA, MBA) preferred.
  • National leadership or specialty certification preferred (ANCC, APTA, AOTA, ASHA, etc.).
