Overview

The CT Technologist RT(R) II at Riverside Healthcare is responsible for performing advanced computed tomography (CT) imaging procedures to produce high-quality diagnostic images. This role involves close collaboration with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure precise and accurate imaging services. The ideal candidate will possess advanced technical skills, excellent patient care abilities, and in-depth knowledge of CT imaging protocols. Additionally, the CT Technologist will handle scheduling, ensure compliance with insurance and Medicare/Medicaid requirements, and demonstrate strong customer service skills. Demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure

Essential Duties

Perform CT Imaging: 

  • Operate CT equipment to conduct imaging procedures, ensuring high-quality images that meet diagnostic requirements.
  • Evaluate images for diagnostic quality and accuracy, adjusting protocols or techniques as necessary.
  • Prepare and position patients for CT scans, explain procedures, and screen for contraindications such as allergies to contrast materials
  • Administer contrast media as required, monitoring patients for adverse reactions and ensuring proper documentation.

  • Adhere to radiation safety guidelines, including the use of protective measures and ensuring patient and staff safety during CT procedures.

Patient Care:

  • Prepare patients for imaging procedures and provide practical instructions to alleviate anxiety and ensure understanding.
  • Assume responsibility for the physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures, providing education and counseling as necessary.
  • Monitor patients during the scan, ensuring their comfort and well-being throughout the procedure.
  • Perform venipuncture to administer contrast agents or other injectable substances required for radiology procedures, ensuring accurate dosage and patient safety according to established protocols.
  • Perform point-of-care testing (POCT). 

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Accurately collect, analyze, and record demographic, insurance/financial, and clinical data from multiple sources.
  • Obtain necessary information and signatures for registrations and billing.
  • Screen for compliance with payer requirements for medical necessity and complete third-party eligibility and benefit verification to secure accurate payment.

Collaboration and Education:

  • Work closely with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely and accurate interpretation of images.
  • Provide practical instructions and participate in teaching programs for students and healthcare professionals.

Floating: 

  • Willingness to float, as needed, to other Riverside Healthcare facilities.

Inventory Management:

  • Control inventory levels, recommend procurement of supplies, and suggest modifications necessary for practical and economical operation.

Non-essential Duties

  • Assist in the training and orientation of new staff members or students as needed.
  • Perform clerical duties related to the imaging department, such as scheduling or patient follow-up.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Comprehensive understanding of CT safety protocols and procedures.
  • Experience with scheduling, insurance compliance, Medicare/Medicaid regulations, and customer service.
  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing patient concerns and ensuring a positive patient experience.

Required Licensure/Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification in Radiography [RT(R)].
  • Registered in the state of Illinois, IEMA as a Radiologic Technologist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Experience

  • Advanced certification in CT by the ARRT [RT(CT)] preferred.

Employee Health Requirements

Exposure to:

  • Chemicals: Chemicals used in processing x-ray film.
  • Video Display Terminals: Extreme
  • Blood and Body Fluids: May be responsible for injection of contrast media as part of their job function. May assist Radiologist in interventional procedures that may cause contact with body fluids.
  • TB or Airborne Pathogens: Direct contact with patients and have potential of normal exposure to airborne pathogens.

Sensory requirements (speech, vision, smell, hearing, touch):

  • Speech: Needed for communication with patients for education, pre-procedure history information, procedure manipulation, and post- procedure instructions.
  • Vision: Needed to identify, from CRT screen, the automany and manipulate for correct density and contrast levels for the proper filming technique. Constant visional contact with patient to assure proper positioning of patient and for patient safety.
  • Smell: Electrical/fire safety.
  • Hearing: Needed for obtaining patient education and understanding of procedure and history information gathering.
  • Touch: Needed for operating computer equipment, key boarding of entry and/or other functions for communication of information necessary for patient care.
