Overview

The Oncology Registration Specialist at Riverside Healthcare's Cancer Treatment Center is responsible for ensuring a smooth and efficient registration process for oncology patients. This role involves gathering accurate patient information, verifying insurance coverage, and facilitating the administrative aspects of patient care. The Oncology Registration Specialist is often the first point of contact for patients and plays a vital role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for those undergoing cancer treatment.

Essential Duties

  • Patient Registration: Accurately collect and enter patient demographic, insurance, and medical information into the electronic health record (EHR) system during the registration process.
  • Insurance Verification: Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits, ensuring that all necessary authorizations and referrals are obtained prior to treatment.
  • Appointment Scheduling: Coordinate and schedule patient appointments, including initial consultations, follow-up visits, and treatment sessions, in collaboration with the clinical team. Coordinates appointments for patients with referrals from outside of the Riverside organization.
  • Financial Counseling Coordination: Assist patients in connecting with financial counselors to discuss payment options, insurance benefits, and financial assistance programs.
  • Communication: Serve as a liaison between patients, clinical staff, and insurance companies to ensure that all necessary documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Patient Support: Provide patients with information and instructions related to their appointments, treatment plans, and any preparatory steps needed for upcoming procedures.
  • Documentation: Maintain and update patient records, ensuring that all information is accurate, complete, and complies with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
  • Demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure.
  • Adhere to AIDET format and standards. Acknowledge and greet all customers timely with a professional and friendly demeanor.

Non-essential Duties

  • Administrative Support: Assist with general office tasks, such as answering phones, managing correspondence, and maintaining supplies.
  • Patient Education Materials: Help prepare and distribute patient education materials, ensuring that they are up-to-date and accessible to all patients.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives to enhance the registration process and overall patient experience.

Responsibilities

Preferred Experience

  • Strong understanding of insurance policies, authorization processes, and oncology treatment protocols.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate complex conversations with patients, providers, and insurance companies.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and other healthcare-related software.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.

Required Licensure/Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
