Overview

The Gift Shop Sales Associate provides exceptional customer service in Riverside Healthcares Marketplace gift shop by assisting customers, processing transactions, and maintaining a clean and well-stocked retail space. The associate helps create a positive shopping experience while supporting the hospitals operations and customer service standards.

Essential Duties

  • Greet and assist customers in selecting merchandise and answering product-related questions. Create a positive, welcoming environment that values customer interactions and relationships.
  • Respond effectively to multiple customers, ensuring all needs are met in a timely manner.
  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system to process sales transactions accurately.
  • Ensure shelves and displays are fully stocked, well-organized, and visually appealing.
  • Handle cash, credit, and gift card transactions in accordance with hospital financial policies.
  • Process returns and exchanges.
  • Assist with receiving, unpacking, and pricing new merchandise.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment in the gift shop.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and resolve minor issues in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Support promotional and seasonal displays to drive sales.
  • Communicate consistently (via call, text, e-mail) with buyer, volunteer services office, gift shop staff, and Director, including during extenuating circumstances in between shifts and during time off.
  • Demonstrate flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure.

Non-essential Duties

  • Assist with preparing for special events or promotions.
  • Perform light cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure a pleasant shopping environment.
  • Collaborate with other hospital staff to support gift shop-related initiatives.

Responsibilities

Required Experience

  • Strong customer service skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a friendly, professional demeanor a must
  • Ability to perform math functions regarding discounts and sales transactions
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light lifting
  • Ability to work alone without supervision and willing to supervise volunteers on your shift

Preferred Experience

  • Retail sales experience (sales, returns, merchandising) preferred
  • Computer experience (e-mail, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel) a plus
  • Familiar with POS and able to learn and utilize system functions properly and efficiently desired

Required Licensure/Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent
