Overview

The Patient Care Services Nurse Manager is responsible for departmental operations, clinical management of resource departments and fiscal activities. Strategically plans and develops system/processes to improve quality and efficiency. Manages staff in accordance with Riverside Healthcare policies. Responsible for hiring, training, coaching, and mentoring staff. Provides oversight and coordination of inpatient dialysis services, vascular access team, wound care and other resource departments to ensure quality service while maintaining a high level of efficiency management.

 

Essential Duties

  • Analyze and document processes and problems
  • Actively engage in interviews and other staff recruitment initiatives
  • Communicates pertinent hospital and patient care information to staff
  • Creates environment of team work and collaboration with Nurse Managers, Team Leaders, Supervisors and Vice Presidents to improve staff satisfaction and enhance retention
  • Develop and promote new programs to strengthen Riverside's overall reputation and market position
  • Establish and maintain excellent physician relationships
  • Establish and maintain QI standards and measurements
  • Manage and provide leadership in financial matters regarding budgeting, cost control and revenue generation
  • Manage the daily clinical and operations of PCS and other resource departments
  • Participate and contribute to assigned committees, teams, task forces, including community service if applicable
  • Provide leadership and direction for ensuring quality patient care
  • Provide leadership and direction for improving patient/customer satisfaction
  • Develop solutions to enhance efficiencies and quality
  • Assist staff with issues not covered by policies
  • Coach and provide career development advice to staff
  • Collaborate with Human Resources for staffing needs
  • Ensure a proper orientation and training program for all clinical and technical contracted dialysis staff has been completed by Riverside Education Department.
  • Maintain documentation of all training.
  • Collaborate with contracted facility representatives to maintain a state of survey readiness for internal and external agency surveys. Work with contracted facility (ies) to resolve specific department deficiencies as a result of a survey.
  • Direct staff in development, analysis, and preparation of reports
  • Establish employee goals and conduct evaluations
  • Finalizes required/requested reports
  • Maintains necessary manuals
  • Manage the daily operational and fiscal activities to include staffing levels, budgets, target and financial goals
  • Manages PCS Sitter/CNAs and staffing office personnel
  • Organize the implementation of solutions
  • Ensures staff compliance of annual training, test and education requirements
  • Ensures that treatment information is documented in the EMR appropriately by staff performing treatments.
  • Responsible for productivity and quality goals
  • Responsible for schedules including work assignments/rotations, training, breaks, vacations, OT, time and attendance compliance, annual evaluations and back up
  • Schedule/conduct department meetings
  • Ensures staffing levels are reviewed and coordinated daily according to patient acuity and available resources
  • Updates PCS policies/procedures

  • Knowledge of office processes, procedures and technology. Experience in supervising project and team activities. Ability to read and interpret financial reports.

Required Licensure/Education

  • Current Illinois RN License
  • Effective 4/01/2024: Upon hire or within 12 months of start date, must complete and maintain a nationally ANCC-recognized nursing leadership or nursing specialty certification.
  • Graduate from an approved school of nursing, BSN required
  • 3-5 years of clinical experience

  • Smell: Needed for electrical/fire safety, detect presence of ETOH on patients and visitors. Hearing: Needed for telephone communication, hear intercom system from patient rooms and front door. 
  • Touch: Required to manipulate and operate office equipment and tools.

  • Protective Clothing Required: As required for chemotherapy or in cases of isolation, i.e. gloves, gowns, masks, goggles.
